This morning I was reading this article about the relief efforts that the church has made in Haiti. It made me think of the many times that we are told to develop our talents. President Spencer W. Kimball said: “God has endowed us with talents and time, with latent abilities and with opportunities to use and develop them in his service. He therefore expects much of us, his privileged children” (The Miracle of Forgiveness [1969], 100).
I wonder what talents I have and how in a time of chaos or disaster I can of service. I think that I have been blessed with many talents but have lacked the knowledge or drive to develop them. Today at work I was quite embarrassed as I had to look up an equation that I should know by heart by now. I just haven't made the effort to do so.
I want to be of service to the Lord and to others so I must work on developing my talents. I want to be useful in a time of need. Some talents I must work on:
- Viola
- Athletics
- Being Creative
- Being Dependable
- Love of Reading
- Love of Learning
"The Church needs your strength. It needs your love and loyalty and devotion. It needs a little more of your time and energy." President Hinkley (Discourses vol1, 23).
What talents do you want to work on?
