What Have I Done for Someone Today? by President Monson was a big wake up call for me. He states: "the needs of others are ever present, and each of us can do something to help someone."
He is definitely speaking to me when he says: "too often we spend most of our time taking care of the things which do not really matter much at all in the grand scheme of things, neglecting those more important causes." Every so often I must sit and imagine if everything I owned were lost in a flood or some other natural disaster would I be upset at how I had wasted my time and money?
President Monson tells of so many acts of service by young children from helping to clean, or giving someone hugs. This is such a wonderful reminder to me that you can give service to someone through very small means. I have been feeling awful that I cannot hold the game night get togethers and dinner nights to help new people in the ward become acquainted (something I wish I had done more of when we moved in). But it doesn't mean that I can't write a note or wave hello to a neighbor. And yes that is service, I know in my life when people do that for me it definitely is.
I now hope to ponder and receive more inspiration as to how I can be of service to those around me. What I can contribute and help, because if the Lord were to look back on my life I would hope that I could say that I made a difference is someones life each and every day.
