Ask, Seek, Knock

Ask, Seek, Knock by Elder Russell M. Nelson teaches us how important it is to continuously follow God's direction so that we may receive more guidance and knowledge specific to us.

One statement that he made that makes perfect sense to me and is extremely applicable in society today is: "A desire to follow the prophet requires much effort because the natural man knows very little of God and even less of His prophet." Satan has supported people's "natural" belief that if they feel it, or it feels good then it should be ok. This is ridiculous. God gave us commandments because he loves us and wants the best for us, he doesn't want us to be less then our best ... so why would homosexuality, adultery, murder, and drug abuse be okay?

He further explained this by saying: "Another prophet taught that 'the natural man is an enemy to God, and has been from the fall of Adam, and will be, forever and ever, unless he yields to the enticings of the Holy Spirit, and putteth off the natural man and becometh a saint through the atonement of Christ the Lord, and becometh as a child, submissive, meek, humble, patient, full of love, willing to submit to all things which the Lord seeth fit to inflict upon him, even as a child doth submit to his father.'6"

Things that are wrong are wrong. You can try to justify them, but they are wrong. Gossip, pornography (in any form), lust, and evil doing are evil.

In Matthew we are taught:

"17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good
fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
20 Wherefore by their
fruits ye shall know them." (Matthew 7: 17-20)

No we are not perfect, as humans on this earth we know that of everyone. However, we should not try to deny the fact that we can and should be better. We are expected to be better. Heavenly Father gave us rules to keep us safe and guide us home ... isn't that what all parents do? And don't most teenagers rebel thinking they know what is best, but once wiser and older understand their parents rules? It's time that we recognize that Heavenly Father loves us and wants only what is best for us ... let's stop rebelling and work hard to become like Christ, perfect.
